The War on Terror

Some phrases have a tendency to catch the imagination. War is one of them. The politicians have a tendency to capitulate on such catch phrases. There is a War on corruption and the votes starts to flow and you are a hero. There is a war against climate change and the popularity begins to soar and you are a hero. So this war is real good. There is no war, and yet there is a war and hence there is a genuine scope for being immortalized as a hero. Ok, if not immortalized, popular to sail through the next popularity contest, be it election or selection in beauty contest. But there is an inherent feature of war. War is an equalizer. You do not go to war against unequal. There is a certain equality in the warring parties. I do not go for war against Govt of India. I rebel against them. That is where even if I claim that I am going for a war against the Govt, the Govt dismisses it as a law and order problem, sends in police, who explain and make me straight while I get some difficulty walkin...

Out of Africa Theory : A scientific theory or religious one

Science as we know, is often seeped in and originates from religion. No matter how much the followers of scientists (or scientist-bhakts) claim and flaunt their secular credentials or portray the men of science as atni-thesis of the religious ones, the effect and influence of religion on the scientific work is hard to hide or ignore. We may attribute this to the cultural aspect of the religion or the upbringing or the surrounding in which the proponent scientist is has lived in and grown up. But nevertheless, we do not want to get into why this is so, but the fact that the influence is hard to ignore or dismiss. One such scientific 'belief' is what is being discussed in this article. This belief is the 'Out of Africa' theory of Human evolution. For the uninitiated readers, here is a link wikipedia - out of africa theory that describes the theory. In short, the theory suggests that the humans or homo sapiens, as we know them,  first originated in what we know now as th...

COVID vaccine strategy - A sure recepie for failure

Let me cut short the pleasantries not so required introductions and jump straight to point. COVID-19 had its dream run in 2020 and the second wave in 2021 has made its 2020 run pale in comparison. India has a population of 135 cr out of which we need to vaccinate around 60-70% to ensure that the impact of the dreaded pandemic is subdued. Now that the vaccines are not tested or invented for children below 18 who constitute 40% of our population[ censusofindia ], we are left with little choice but to inoculate the entire eligible population. This number at official figures would be in tune of 80 Cr. at 2 vaccines per person, we are looking at 160cr or 1.6billion doses of vaccine. Add wastage at 5% or less to the number we are looking at around 170 cr or 1.7 billion doses. But where are so many doses? There is a parallel killer in the town. That killer is poverty. Everytime, we have a lockdown there is a bigger risk of people losing livelihood. The result is the ability of people to ...

AYUSH: Promoting what?

AYUSH- is a department under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. This acronym stands for Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. In short it this department deals with all the popular medical systems that are less popular than the Allopathic or western or modern medical system. Now why there is a separate department for these set of medical systems? These systems do not share anything in common other than that they are Medical systems which have been scientifically documented and traditionally practiced over a long period of time and that they are less popular than the Allopathic medical system. Otherwise, they are essentially different from each other. The DNA of these systems itself is different. How you can club Ayurveda with homeopathy where the former relies of the medicinal properties of plants and herbs, the later works on esoteric principles of "Memory of Solvents" (at least esoteric to other systems of medicine).So...

reviving a new habit

It was a few years back, more than a couple of them, that I decided I would scribble some regular stuff on my blog regularly and and few not so regulars occasionally. I had a sudden feeling that I had a lot that I was observing around and I had the required talent to put the thoughts to paper(web or e-paper to be precise). However, days and months and years passed taking weeks and fortnights along with them that I published even the regulars occasionally. Not that there was a lack of thought provoking events, ideas or people during this period who deserved attention. There was no lack of thoughts. There never is lack of ability to allot some words to the thoughts, especially when the thoughts are all mine. So then, where was the problem? And this sure is a problem. One does not lack the will, conviction or the ability to write and yet does not write. Now this is a really thought provoking idea and deserves some allotment of words in its favor. Writing, I have begun to...

Office Humor

I am not very sure if I have spelled it correctly or not as I am writing on an elementary text editor called notepad. Notepad does not offer any kind of spell-check or spelling suggestion facility and I am feeling like a little crippled by the lack of 'on-the-fly' word suggestion. Just wondering what is crippling, the provision of spelling suggestion or lack of it? open for discussion. So coming back to the point, and when the topic itself is not clear, it becomes all the more difficut for me to come to the point. Just wondering what is Office humour? Office humour could be some form of humour that is in place in offices. I doubt as in offices any humanly thing can not be 'in place'. And if it is, it is supposed to be 'productive' should have a boss and a mentor and is supposed to show some improvement in a tangible measurable way(the long trail of words just passed mean how well one can lick butts, in some intangible way). Office humour might also mean somethin...

cost of labour

It is just a queer perchance that i am trying my hand once again at this blog. The fact is that if I were to try my hands, I would not have been doing it as I had promised myself of the "thoughts flowing in". I am not trying my hand at , I am pouring in my thoughts. There is a distinct difference between the two. At 11:00pm in night, this is the only possibly productive thought that has dawned upon me. what i am doing for last 6 odd hours(or even - literally) is wait for something to happen. - a code merge which will ultimately result in showcasing some sort of productive work output that I and the team have been working on. This all can not be postponed, planned, or rescheduled. because we are supposed to be respecting the deadlines, effort, client etc etc. but are we respecting the labour? a team of close to 50 people sitting idle for 7 hours = 350 manhours wasted. and we talk of professionalism. dont know, whether I should use the word shameless or shameful for it.

Madhubani paintings

I thought that something will keep flowing in this blog, but there is hardly anything that i wrote. Now there is some reason to write on. I have created a site on madhubani paintings. this is on http://madhubanipaintings.saratechsolutions.com Madhubani paintings are traditional art done by women of north bihar. cotton wrapped on bamboo stick is used as brush and natural colours are used. will write later on this. update- dismantled this. not valid anymore.
